Dr. Rachel Horton received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Idaho State University and attended medical school at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington.  Rachel then attended Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology followed by a Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology fellowship.

During her training at Mayo Clinic, Rachel participated in research, resulting in multiple peer reviewed publications in multiple medical journals and multiple platform presentations at the United States and Canada Academy of Pathology (USCAP) international conference.  Rachel also assisted in educating peers, research physicians, medical students, and trainees from other training programs during her time as a resident and fellow.  While in her fellowship, Rachel was privileged to receive excellent training by world leading experts in GI/Liver pathology, presented weekly continuing medical education conferences,  and participated in multiple interdisciplinary subspecialty conferences each week, which further enriched her appreciation for a cooperative, team-centered approach to patient care.

Rachel’s interest in pathology began while she was employed as a pathology laboratory technician in Southeast Idaho prior to attending medical school.  While she was in medical school, Rachel was able to return to several Southeast Idaho communities to complete all of her medical clerkships.  She is happy to be returning to Southeast Idaho, once again, and looks forward to continuing to work with clinicians and serve the patients in this region.

Rachel and her husband are both southeast Idaho natives and are the proud parents of five wonderful children.  They enjoy spending time together as a family traveling and exploring the beautiful outdoors.  Rachel also enjoys creative hobbies and she loves cooking and baking for her family any chance she gets.
